CBN and Diamond resin bonded wheels are not dressed, as a rule, since they have self-sharpening ability, but from time to time the cutting ability is getting worse due to surface micro relief changing.
To improve the wheel cutting-ability the working wheel surface is dressed in the following ways:
Manually, white aluminum oxide sticks for CBN wheels, and silicon carbide sticks for diamond wheels; stick grit size: F120 - for truing of wheels with D(B)125/106 and coarser grits, F180 - for truing of wheels with D(B)107 and finer grits. The recommended stick hardness - l →J.
- On the machine, with a silicon carbide abrasive wheel with D=70...80 mm, grit size F60, hardness L—>N on special device with a centrifugal brake. Contacting with the grinding wheel, the truing wheel turns and, due to braking, it slips relative to the grinding wheel, “opening” its working surface and decreasing its run-out at the same time.
In some cases the dressing with diamond rolls or diamond tools with further wheel truing is applied.
